School for Savannah

by Amy

Well, I am so excited to report that Savannah and I visited a Kindergarten today! Brad and a friend of ours found the place last week, and believe it or not, they were willing to take a foreign kid! The location is not bad....It took a little under 20 min. to get there with mainly walking and also hopping on a bus for one stop. We can easily take a taxi, if we're ever in a pinch.

The schools here are different than the ones we have in the states. The most noticeable difference is the teacher to kid ratio. Today it was 1:36. Nope, that's not a typo; there were 36 five-year-olds in a room with one teacher! And, it was loud, but not nearly as chaotic as you would expect. All of the kids stayed seated pretty well and would quiet down when the teacher clapped her hands or played a tambourine. :) Savannah was really quiet and not quick to try the few words that she knows, but she claims she's super excited to go back tomorrow.

So, as of right now, our plan is for Savannah to attend Kindergarten everyday from 8:30-10:30. That way, she misses the meals. This school serves breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner to all their kids. But, with Savannah's allergies, we feel better not having her eat there right now. Allergies are not taken very seriously here. Then, from about 11:00-12:00 or 12:30 I will home school her, with Peter and Alex participating in some of the home schooling, like listening to the stories I read and coloring. We are all really looking forward to homeschooling starting. I had this really cool table made for under 100 USD!

Tomorrow, Savannah will head back to school and I will bring a friend who will come translate for me. I will be able to have a few of my questions answered and give Savannah a chance to be in the room without me next to her. Then, we will have to get a physical for her before she can return full time. We will hopefully take care of that this week. Then, on Sunday we are heading to a coastal city for a little vacation for a few days. So, it looks like Savannah will start attending daily on Sept. 3. So, those of you who thought of us concerning a school for Savannah, thank you, thank you!

Here's another cute pic of my cute girl ready for her first day of school!

Father blesses us in so many ways that are enexpected. The school I will be teaching at was first introduced to me by a friend.

I ask Father that Savannah will make friends and will be able to share of His love and peace in her life.

Miss your fam!

Amy, this is great news! I'm so proud of Savannah--and your're right, she is really cute! The table looks great, and it sounds as though God is making His way clear for you as you seek to educate your three precious children.

I praise Him with you!

Love and miss you,

Jodi

Congrats! That's a huge thing! We'll continue to think of her as she gets used to being there.
