Almost every afternoon while the boys nap, Savannah and I homeschool. I've been teaching her to read. She's been doing a great job! I've been using Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. So far, I've been really pleased with this curriculum. Granted, Savannah's almost 6 years old and probably should have been reading a year or two ago. (Things were a little busy then, so we decided to wait until now.)
As you can tell by the title, she has 100 reading lessons. Our goal is to be finished by her birthday, July 12. We usually do one lesson a day, but occasionally we'll complete two. I made her a book mark that has the numbers 1 through 100 on it. At the end of each lesson, she gets to scratch off a number. I also put a sticker over 5 different numbers. When she reaches a sticker, she gets a prize! Last week she reached her second sticker (lesson # 38). We decided getting her nails painted would be her reward this time. (Last time we went out for ice cream.) So, we went to a little nail shop in front of our grocery store. They let Savannah pick out about 10 different colors -- a new color for each nail. She had a blast! I also had my nails painted -- all the same color. :) The total bill was just under $3.

Way to go, Savannah Lea! Keep up the hard work!

She is so cute! Learning to read is a fun, but hard process. I have been working on that with all my kindergartners! I love keeping up with you life. Love you!
